أعلنت شركة غوغل عن تحديث جديد لتطبيق Google Maps يتيح للمستخدمين تحميل الخرائط مسبقاً واستخدامها دون الحاجة إلى اتصال بالإنترنت، في خطوة تهدف إلى تسهيل التنقل في المناطق التي تعاني من ضعف التغطية أو أثناء السفر إلى الخارج.
وللاستفادة من الخدمة، يحتاج المستخدم إلى تخطيط بسيط قبل فقدان الاتصال، وذلك من خلال فتح التطبيق واختيار خيار “الخرائط غير المتصلة” من قائمة الحساب، ثم تحديد المنطقة المطلوبة على الخريطة وتنزيلها لحفظها على الجهاز.
وبمجرد اكتمال التنزيل، تصبح الخريطة متاحة للاستخدام الكامل دون إنترنت، بشرط ألا يتجاوز المستخدم حدود المنطقة التي تم تنزيلها.
تتيح الخرائط غير المتصلة عرض الشوارع والمعالم بدقة عالية، وتدعم تحديد الاتجاهات باستخدام نظام تحديد المواقع GPS حتى في وضع الطيران أو في الأماكن التي تنعدم فيها التغطية.
ومع ذلك، تبقى بعض المزايا محدودة مثل بيانات حركة المرور المباشرة وخيارات النقل العام والمشي وركوب الدراجات، نظراً لاعتمادها على اتصال فوري بالإنترنت لتحديث المعلومات بشكل مستمر.
وترى غوغل أن هذه الخطوة تمثل نقلة نوعية في تسهيل التنقل وجعل التجربة أكثر سلاسة وموثوقية، حتى في حال انقطاع الإنترنت كلياً، ما يجعلها ميزة عملية للمسافرين إلى المناطق النائية أو للراغبين في تقليل استهلاك بياناتهم أثناء الحركة.
